fetishizing mlm (simple version)
there will be mentions of NSFW, sexualizing, and fetishizing in this
click mlm hello kitty to continue
what is fetishizing?
fetishizing, in short, is "to obsess over," but it can mean many different things. it isn't always nsfw or sexual, and more than often isnt
examples in kpop fandoms that i see a lot:
using the terms top/bottom
writing mlm smut as a non-mlm
saying a (mlm)ship is probably having sex together
the do's and don'ts of mlm things
things that are fetishizing:
using mlm sex terms, writing mlm smut as a cishet or non-mlm, reading mlm smut as a non-mlm, using gay stereotypes, read yaoi, use the term fujoshi
so you want to write an mlm au?
DO:
use diverse characteristics, make sure you are portraying mlm relationships realistically, and ask for help when needed
DON'T
write about mlm struggles as a non mlm, use stereotypes, make one feminine & the other super masc (included in stereotyping)
faq
"can i read mlm aus if it is for comfort and i am lgbt?" yes, as long as it isn't smut, go ahead
"can i be lgbt and still fetishize mlm?" yes, it is possible, and not as uncommon as you think
"can i write mlm aus if i'm lgbt?" yes, as long as they are all SFW and don't include nsfw
"is it fetishizing to write or include a mlm relationship in a tv show?" no, i actually think the representation is good, as long as it doesn't use stereotypes or anything listed in the don'ts
remember:
do not read yaoi
don't read mlm smut
don't use stereotypes
and don't speak over mlm
